About Internet Subway
Internet Subway designs, builds, owns, and operates fiber-to-the-unit internet networks exclusively for Multifamily communities. We partner with apartment owners and developers to deliver fast, reliable resident internet and smart-building connectivity. Our mission is simple: enable seamless digital lifestyle experiences for residents and property teams. We’re growing fast, and we’re building a team that takes pride in doing technical work well and treating customers like people.
The Role: Sales Engineer
As a Sales Engineer, you’re the technical backbone of our sales process. You turn a prospective property into a buildable, accurately priced network design — translating a community’s physical layout and connectivity needs into a clear scope our sales team can confidently sell and our construction team can execute without surprises. You’ll spend your time quoting projects, designing networks, surveying sites, and keeping our deal data clean and reliable. If you like the mix of technical depth and customer-facing work, and you want your designs to actually get built, this is the seat for you.
What You’ll Do
Project Quoting
- Build accurate, defensible quotes and proposals for prospective Multifamily properties — factoring in unit count, construction type, materials, labor, and vendor costs.
- Calculate project costs for deals in the pipeline and keep pricing assumptions current as material and labor costs shift.
- Turn quotes around fast enough to keep deals moving through the sales cycle.
Project Design
- Translate sales opportunities into technically sound outside plant (OSP) and in-building network designs, including scope, assumptions, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Produce implementation-ready design packages that hand off cleanly to the construction and documentation teams.
- Ensure designs align with company network standards, topology, and long-term scalability.
Site Surveys
- Conduct site surveys of prospective and contracted properties to validate serviceability, identify construction constraints, and confirm design assumptions before a project is sold or built.
- Review third-party survey work for accuracy and completeness when outside vendors are used.
- Document survey findings (photos, notes, measurements) in a form the design, pricing, and construction teams can use.
CRM & Data Discipline
- Keep accurate, current records in our CRM for every opportunity you touch — deal stage, technical notes, design status, and quote status — so the whole team works from a single source of truth.
- Support forecasting and reporting by keeping deal data complete and timely.
What You Bring
Required
- 1–3+ years of experience in telecom, ISP, low-voltage, structured cabling, or a related technical field — sales engineering, network design, or field engineering experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of fiber-to-the-unit (FTTU) or fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) fundamentals: OSP vs. in-building infrastructure, PON architecture, and basic network topology.
- Comfort reading and producing site plans, floor plans, or as-builts, and translating them into a bill of materials.
- Strong attention to detail and solid CRM/data discipline.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to properties for site surveys.
Certifications — Preferred or Pathway
- CompTIA Network+ or A+ (entry-level baseline).
- BICSI or FOA (Fiber Optic Association) certification — or willingness to earn it within your first year, with our support.
Nice to Have
- Experience in Multifamily or property-based connectivity, ISP deployment, or telecom project coordination.
- Familiarity with network documentation and design/BOM tooling.
- The ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to non-technical sales and property stakeholders.
